World Health Organisation don express worry over the rise of pipo wey get diabetes across Africa, and dem dey urge make action quick to tackle this big health problem wey dey threaten millions of lives.
Dr Mohamed Janabi, WHO Director for Africa, for one message on World Diabetes Day say the continent dey face serious diabetes wahala because of unhealthy lifestyle, the steady increase of obesity and overweight, and weak health systems.
E talk say now pass 24 million pipo for Africa dey live with diabetes, and estimates show e fit reach 60 million by 2050. E still warn say about half of the pipo wey get the condition no even know, and that na why many preventable deaths dey happen.
Dr Janabi say make African governments strengthen their health systems so dem fit detect diabetes early, treat am well and give proper care. If pipo wey get diabetes no detect, e fit scatter the economy and cause development to slow down.
E mention say countries like Ghana and Uganda don already include diabetes and heart diseases inside primary health care under the WHO Global Diabetes Compact 2024.
He call on countries to improve policies on food and physical activity and to make medicines available at subsidised prices for everybody, stressing that early detection together with lifestyle changes fit reduce the risk well.
