On Thursday, the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA) announce sey dem don suspend the plan to implement the 15% tax wey dem plan to put on import of petrol.

George Ene-Ita, Director Public Affairs for NMDPRA, announce am for statement and advise people make dem no dey rush buy fuel because dem fear say e go finish.

On 29 October, President Bola Tinubu approve the plan to add tax on import of petrol and diesel — policy wey people expect say go increase the price of imported fuel.

Originally, the reason na to support local refineries like Dangote Refinery and the smaller refineries by making imported fuel more expensive. Dem bin plan to start to implement the policy from 21 November 2025.

But for a new statement, NMDPRA say sey government no dey consider to go ahead with the implementation of the 15% tax on import of petrol and diesel at the moment.

For the statement, NMDPRA assure the public sey there dey enough petrol for the country at the approved level given the high demand now.

The agency also warn those wey dey hide fuel and people wey dey cause panic-buying say make dem stop, because fuel dey plenty for the country.
